Weekly Photo Challenge: Monument

Should I be taking part in the Weekly Photo Challenges? You see, I moved from WordPress to Blogger for the greater flexibility including the ability to sell my photographs direct from my blog. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this?

Grace Darling

In the meantime to this weeks challenge. Over the years I have photographed many monuments but this small piece of artwork made of driftwood and the remains of a fallen tree has impressed me the most. Artist Frank Lund and a team of very talented people worked to build Grace in three weeks and it’s big enough for children and adults to step on. You can read more about the building of Grace on the Hoylake Village website.

So who was Grace Darling? Wikipedia describes Grace as an English lighthouse keeper's daughter, famed for participating in the rescue of survivors from the shipwrecked Forfarshire in 1838. some how I find it rather incongruous that a pirate ship should be named after Grace Darling. What do you think?

  3. I spent 4 good years on WordPress Connie, but I felt as though I was limited in what I could do re customising the blog. That's why I moved to Blogger. I have a lot of photographs that need to see the light of day.....

  4. Interesting take on the Monument theme! Sorry to lose you, although I myself have a blog on blogspot which actually gets more hits than my wordpress version, even though I haven't kept it up as I should. For myself, I'd love to have you continue your challenges on wordpress, although I guess they won't show up in my email anymore. I've always enjoyed your photographs and stories. You don't have to abandon your wordpress blog just because you moved over to blogspot. You can always use it for your challenges. :) Plus, it will make commenting a whole lot easier if you maintain your wordpress for challenges. It's a pain to comment from wordpress to blogspot. :)

You're welcome to come and see what my take on the theme is:

    1. In the end it was a no brainer for me Cris. Wordpress refused to support or help me with the WLW problem and I use WLW for all my blog posts because I have an off-line record which I can turn into e-books. I changed my blog theme and it didn't work and error reports in WLW kept saying that it couldn't download theme elements from the WP server because it was being blocked. WLW works perfectly with Blogger so I made the decision to change. I can also direct sell my photographs on blogger I couldn't do that in WP

    1. Linda, thank you for taking the time to visit and comment on my blog. I see you have some photographs of Stockholm, I presume you live there. I had the good fortune to visit several times as I used to visit Ericsson at Nacka Strand and in later years Telefonplan.

  6. Glad to see that you're still posting photographs. Funny, I was on Blogger for years, then that blog got stale, then mothballed. Started a new one on WP a few years later. Now, 3 years in, I've been thinking about moving back to Blogger. Love your photographs and am happy to see that they are still available on the web. (PS. I disagree with commentor above who said that it was difficult to comment on Blogger. It is only if the blogger has limited who can comment. With the options you have, it's easy.)
